Quintas Lomas La Perla: Overall Project Description

Quintas Lomas La Perla is a new housing project located in the village of La Union Rio Perla in the Municipality of Guacimo, Limon Province.  The individually titled lots and houses of Quintas Lomas La Perla are located around the La Perla primary school in the center of the village. Most of the lots are located along perennial streams, and all are easy walking distance to the Perla River with access to “Playa La Perla” and its clear, clean water.  All the lots have good road access, and some already have water, electricity, and telephone hook-ups. All the lots in Quintas Lomas La Perla also border Finca Rio Perla, which offers fresh food products and recreational activities. Quintas Lomas La Perla is about 20 minute drive from Herediana Junction on Route 32; about halfway between San Jose and Limon.

Quintas Lomas La Perla is close to Alegria (8km, 10-15 minute drive) that has good schools, shops, supermarkets, and restaurants. Route 32 is also nearby with Herediana Junction about (20 minute drive), and Pocora and Siquirres (30 minute drive). Siquirres is a major commercial and transport hub for Limon Province, and it also has a hospital.  Guacimo (40 minute drive) and Guapiles (50-60 minute drive) are other nearby major towns. Quintas  Lomas La Perla is only about 2 to 2 ½ hour drive from San Jose (center or airport) and the Caribbean beaches of Cahuita and Puerto Viejo. Other nearby attractions include Earth University (an international university for sustainable development that has a high-quality private bilingual K-12 school), and whitewater rafting on the Pacuare River; both within 35-40 minutes.

La Union Rio Perla (“La Perla”)
La Union Rio Perla “(La Perla”) is a small rural village with about 10 resident households in the Caribbean Highlands of Costa Rica.  Twenty years ago, there were and about 30-35 households and several active coffee and dairy farms, and a large macadamia farm. But, over the years, the farms were converted to pasture and small farms for beef cattle. Presently, there are only 2 organized commercial activities in La Perla, La Cholita which is a large dairy farm, and Finca Rio Perla which is a multi-activity farm including dairy, poultry, tilapia fish, coffee, cocoa and recreational activities (hiking and horseback riding) and lodging (www.fincarioperla.com). There is a small primary school in the center of the village with a large futbol field, and a short walk to the Perla River and “Playa La Perla”; a great place to go swimming and for picnics.
