Finca Rio Perla is a farm located in the Caribbean Highlands of Costa Rica, in a small village called Union Rio Perla. We are located about 60 miles (100 km) east of San Jose and 40 miles (60 km) west of the Port of Limon. We are close to the town of Siquirres and whitewater rafting attractions at the Pacuare River, and near to Earth University (Pocora). About Volunteering at Finca Rio Perla Join the volunteer program at Finca Rio Perla, where you can experience permaculture and organic gardening, working with animals, tree planting, and lots of other farm and eco-tourism related activities. Get a chance to milk cows and goats by hand and make cheese, and other foods. Get a chance to learn to cook new dishes and also help us by cooking your specialties. Be comfortable to practice your Spanish, make cultural connections, meet new friends in Costa Rica, begin life-long friendships with volunteers from other countries, and of course enjoy amazing waterfalls and natural pools. The average work-day is about 4-6 hours, and the work week is 6 days. We will have both assigned and optional tasks, and we hope that your own ideas and creativity can also generate different work options. The cost of our program includes lodging and meals. The program does not cover the cost of transportation to Costa Rica, to/from Finca Rio Perla, or any trips or tours you choose to take while you volunteer with us. However, we can help you arrange transportation. You should have personal travel insurance. Costs Cost includes lodging and food, but does NOT include transport to/from Finca Rio Perla:
Intern program at Finca Rio Perla The Intern/Guest Programs are for persons with specific skills of interest to Finca Rio Perla, and for persons wanting to stay an extended period of time. The conditions with respect to work activities and costs/benefits will be negotiated on a case by case basis. The basic package would be for lodging and meals and activities in return for working 4-6 hours a day, 6 days a week. Revenue sharing arrangements are possible for persons able to directly generate value added for Finca Rio Perla. We particularly are looking for persons with skills in sustainable agriculture in the humid tropics (organic farming, permaculture), inexpensive and sustainable home construction, agro-eco tourism hospitality services, persons that specialize in carpentry/furniture. vehicle mechanics and metal working. electrician/plumbing, agro-eco tour guides, food processors (dairy products, bread, salsas, jams, etc.) artisans. artists/writers and musicians, teachers, nurses and doctors, etc. For persons with some basic knowledge and/or commitment to achieve specific goals/tasks staying at least 1 month at the farm. At most pay 50% of volunteer rates, possibly discounted to 25% of volunteer rates (rebated at end of program if "good performance"). Persons with specific skills needed by Finca Rio Perla, 25% of volunteer cost if less than 1 month. You should have personal travel insurance. Persons thinking of becoming "partners" and/or possibly buying land at Finca Rio Perla are ideal candidates for interns or guests.
