Volunteer/Intern Finca Rio Perla (FRP)NOTE: we are only accepting volunteers with experience working with horses and who want to work with horses, and/or who want to work on reforestation planting trees.
Finca Rio Perla's volunteer/intern program provides an authentic "hands-on" farm experience. We try to design and tailor the program for each participant based on their educations/skills and interests, and FRP needs. Examples of hands-on activities are: water, energy and fuel systems; food production in many different micro-zones;, greenhouse gardening; animal pastures, care of horses, dairy cattle, egg-laying chickens, tilapia fish, fruit trees, cacao and coffee trees, tropical root crops, forestry trees, tree nurseries, composting and worm production; food processing (cheeses, marmalades, baked goods, etc.); trail maintenance and building, reforestation, and special projects. About Volunteering at Finca Rio Perla
Join the volunteer program at Finca Rio Perla, where you can experience permaculture and organic gardening, working with animals, tree planting, and lots of other farm and eco-tourism related activities. Get a chance to milk cows and goats by hand and make cheese, and other foods. Get a chance to learn to cook new dishes and also help us by cooking your specialties. Be comfortable to practice your Spanish, make cultural connections, meet new friends in Costa Rica, begin life-long friendships with volunteers from other countries, and of course enjoy amazing waterfalls and natural pools. The average work-day is about 4-6 hours, and the work week is 6 days. We will have both assigned and optional tasks, and we hope that your own ideas and creativity can also generate different work options. The cost of our program includes lodging and meals. The program does not cover the cost of transportation to Costa Rica, to/from Finca Rio Perla, or any trips or tours you choose to take while you volunteer with us. However, we can help you arrange transportation. Note: you should have personal travel insurance. Costs of Volunteer Program Cost includes lodging and food, but does NOT include transport to/from Finca Rio Perla: $140 for 1 week $250 for 2 weeks $400 for 1 month $1,000 for 3 months Note: discounts for longer stays and for persons with special skills. Intern Program at Finca Rio Perla The Intern Program is for persons with specific skills of interest to Finca Rio Perla, and for persons wanting to stay an extended period of time. The conditions with respect to work activities and costs/benefits will be negotiated on a case by case basis. The basic package would be for lodging and meals and activities in return for working 4-6 hours a day, 6 days a week. Revenue sharing arrangements are possible for persons able to directly generate value added for Finca Rio Perla. We particularly are looking for persons with skills in sustainable agriculture in the humid tropics (organic farming, permaculture), inexpensive and sustainable home construction, agro-eco tourism hospitality services, persons that specialize in carpentry/furniture. vehicle mechanics and metal working. electrician/plumbing, agro-eco tour guides, food processors (dairy products, bread, salsas, jams, etc.) artisans. artists/writers and musicians, teachers, nurses and doctors, etc. The intern program is for persons who come to Finca Rio Perla with some knowledge/skills and/or commitment to achieve specific goals/tasks, and staying at least 1 month at the farm. Conditions of Intern Program Interns work in exchange for lodging and food. Costs for individual interns will be determined in consultation with Finca Rio Perla. Costs are 50% (or less) of volunteer rates depending on background/skills. For qualified interns, there are no monthly costs, only a $100 deposit that will be returned when the intern leaves.
